Many years ago, I stood in the cul de sac of a friend’s neighborhood while his two little boys looked through a telescope. A comet was passing by, I no longer remember which one. Our host was a pastor, the kind who said things about God that made some uneasy, the kind who wasn’t afraid of questions and doubts: my kind of pastor, my kind of human.
One of his little boys turned to look at the other and said, “Will we be able to see God through this telescope?” Their father, the pastor, said, “If you want to see God, just look at each other.” The little boys just giggled, but after all these years, I’ve never forgotten it, and as I get older this truth takes on a profound and beautiful meaning in my life.
The first time I saw “the face of God” I was in a grocery store. I did not know the man. He was not my gender, race, or age. It did not matter. I looked at him, and my breath caught in my throat. I felt a wave of absolute, unconditional love. He was beautiful, and there was no separation between him and me. I was held captive by love and light and never wanted to leave–no, I wasn’t on anything in case you are wondering. As I’ve gotten older and spend more time in meditation and studying the nature of unconditional love, quantum entanglement, practicing Reiki, and pondering what God (or by whatever name you call this beautiful energy) is and means to me, I understand the power and nature of love more and more. Now, these moments of seeing God in the faces of others are becoming more frequent, even with people whom I haven’t seen eye to eye with, suddenly…the face of God. They are inexplicably beautiful to me and any conflict we’ve had feels so meaningless.
Some might say, “Well, don’t you just live in a nonsense, airy fairy world?” Nah, I still handle conflict when it arises. I still call customer service when I need to. The difference is, now that I’ve seen there is no separation between you and me; hurting you will hurt me; understanding you will lead to understanding me; loving you means loving me; and saving you will save me.
There is only one of us.
Mineral of the Month: Red Jasper
Can be a deep red to terracotta color.

Essential Oil of the Month: Sandalwood
It has a woody, warm, creamy scent.
Uses: Because it promotes calm and focus at the same time, it is excellent for use in meditation. It has also been noted for use in skin care for its anti-inflammatory and astringent like properties; thus some people use it as an acne treatment.
Where does it come from: It’s mostly found in India, Australia, and Indonesia.
*Sandalwood does have some sustainability concerns. It takes decades to mature, and to harvest the oil, it is usually harvested roots and all. Therefore, you might consider companies that buy their sandalwood from somewhere like Quintis Sandalwood in Australia. They run a fully traceable, sustainable production of sandalwood.
